Asus Integrated BIOS BEWARE!

Ok, so I purchased a P5NE-SLI motherboard from the egg. Great board, easy to raid and setup. However when I went to the manual overclocking features they were greyed out and un-editable ...I was like ***? So I called Asus and talked to Kara whom I think is the only person who works in the BIOS dept. Anyhow she said for $5.00 they could send me a new BIOS chip so I had them send it. I received the BIOS chip and went ahead with the extraction of the bad BIOS. Now grant it I have a BIOS CLCC extraction tool and am no newbie to removing a BIOS chip. Also keep in mind that on my motherboard the BIOS doesn't sit inside any type of BIOS "housing" like most motherboards. It was just free on the board looks liked somebody just superglued it. The most my BIOS extraction tool would do is pull along the side of the chip and scrape away at it. I finally ended up using 2 flathead screwdrivers to pry up the sucker. The pins on the BIOS chip completely bent away after I pulled it up. The new BIOS chip would not install directly to the board.

It seemed like the BIOS chip was soldered onto the board. So once again I called Asus and talked to Kara regarding the integration of the BIOS chip since the tech support team couldn't give me a definitive answer. Kara informed me that on some P5NE and P5NE-SLI boards some are integrated and some are not! She said she couldn't understand why Asus was going back towards the integration method of the BIOS chips. I just wanted to post this to give everyone a heads up.

Oh, on a further note, I RMA'd my bad board back and got a new one. It too has an integrated BIOS chip but the overclocking features are ready to roll

Oh believe me I flashed the BIOS to the newest version and it still wouldn't let me OC. In fact the built in Flash utility in the BIOS would not successfully update the BIOS. However, I downloaded the AWDFlash utility and booted from the 2 floppy disks and it worked but still no OC options.
