Actually, I originally dual-booted vista and gave it up like many people here. It was kinda interesting and all, but I didn't bother installing games, 'knowing' they would run much worse. I couldn't find any features I loved enough to make me boot solely into vista. So I formatted that drive, and installed Ubuntu.

You can see my misery with it in the Linux forum...
So after getting a non-trial version of Vista from school, I installed it over Ubuntu, and, seeing as games were going kinda slow in XP due to malware, I just decided to install Counter-Strike Source.

I forgot to turn off HDR and all the unnecessary goodies.

IT RAN F***ING PERFECTLY.

After that I've used Vista. You just really need to give a lot of it a chance, install your favorite programs and see how they run. I really think they should have some sort of "trial" for it though.

I can't really figure out how to turn off Indexing services.

Also, my computer uses a lot of memory. I have a lot of programs open right now and it is using 1.4GB. What are some settings you can change to reduce memory use?

I am going to try making a RAM drive to put my temp files on. Hopefully this works.
Indexing is now under Superfetch. It makes the search function on Vista so great. Also, that is what is using your RAM, it only uses what is available though, so no worries. If your PC needs it for something else, it will stop using it.

Vista is a lot of fun. Something got corrupted on my Vista install so I'm stuck using just XP until I can fix it (probably gonna do a complete wipe), but I loved it. It's fast, pretty, fairly secure, and has some sweet features.
