7950 very high memory clock

Thread Starter
Well using my Zalman Fatal1ty FC-ZV9 (basically a VF900) I've got my XFX 7950GT running at 663/890. I've got heatsinks on the ram chips.

I'm wondering if a speed of 890MHz on the RAM is even safe (stock was 700)? It runs stably with no artifacting, but do I have any chance of frying the RAM?

Well I'm trying to use ATi tool to find the max clock for processor and memory....is it usually fairly reliable in determining good clocks?

you should OC the card manually then use the scan for artifacts button... if there are no yellow dots in about 10-15 minutes then your OC is good

Ok yeah it was definitely artifacting at 663/890...

I'm going to get it as high as I can...so far it looks very stable at 655/870....hopefully I can push it a tad more.

Yes, ATiTool is a very good overclocking program from my personal experience.

Personally, I favor finding the max clocks myself as opposed to the automatic ones that the program offers. I start by finding my core clock - from stock I move up 10 mhz and test for artifacts after each new clock. Once I begin to see artifacts, I lower by 5-10 mhz from whatever that value was, and test for stability by running a final artifact test for a lengthy period (I go for 45 min. to an hour, but I've heard that 15 min. should do the trick).

I do the same for my memory clock. On my current card I reached 580/920 (stock is 450/648).

This is really just one to go about oc'ing your gpu though. Testing for stability can be done with a variety of programs, like the 3DMarks for example. For me it is less of a hassle if I do it all with ATiTool.
