Quad cores are relatively new to the mainstream market. Servers have used 4+ processors for many years and because of this, most server applications fully take advantage of multiple cores. But as mainstream software is designed to utilize the more cores, which is what is going on right now, you will most likely find that dual cores will be considered under powered in the near future, just like most single cores are today.

Your comments remind me of the following quotes.
Knitelife is dope.

I definitely love me Quad. Helps me lots in decoding, encoding while editing in Final Cut Pro. Not to mention the speedy increase in Motion 3 and other apps such as Color, Cinema 4D's rendering, Maya, and Frodoshop.

If I could find decent prices on 3.0Ghz Quads and a good dual socketed motherboard I'd have an Octo rig.

It's a worthwhile investment to those that can use the horsepower, though the majority will not.

And, Soon Quad core's will be the same price as a Dual core CPU. (Q6600-$266 vs. 6850- $266) So why not.

Isn't that like four words?

Otherwise, you just said "Crysis Alan Wake".
