Finally Finished Quake 4 - Supa Review by Me!!111 - Page 2

i got bored of Quake 4 while playing it... the levels are just all so similar - ok it does get better towards the end, but some of it is just so boring

i pushed myself to finish it... but the entire game took 6 hours to complete first time i played it

i do like the gun upgrades.. that's pretty cool - especially the railgun one

the game does get too easy when you have the dark matter gun... it just destroys everyone - did anyone else think the last few boss fights were too easy?

couple of other things: it does look good - inside.... if any of you have seen the background when you are in the main strogg bit... its a pixelated 2D photo.... which is shocking really

the other thing that really annoyed me was how crap the other marines are.... they actually cannot do anything - and you are pretty much always on your own which makes it like one man saves the day, when in fact you shoot some really easy stuff

another problem with the storyline is that everything that could go wrong does - whenever you think, oh im about to finish the game, something messes up and you are back to square one

{Spoiler!} i have to say, the bit where you get half turned into a strogg was good, made you feel like the actual character {Spoiler end}

apart from that though it wasn't a great game - with a better storyline and maybe some harder boss fights it would be much better

I think the movement for one is ten times better then Hald Life 2. Anything Valve puts out just seems "stiff" to me and not very fluid. I do not understand for the life of me why people hail Hald Life's story as being all that great either.

Now I will give you the story for Half Life 2 is better then most other FPS stories, but cmon that is NOT saying very much at all! They are FPS, if you want story go play an RPG or something.

The weapons in Half Life are very boring in my opinion as well. I guess maybe b/c its supposed to be leaned more towards realism then Quake and Unreal I dont know. But even then with a game trying to be realistic (the Rainbow six series) the weapons are more fun.

I don't know, there is nothing wrong with you people as I know it is me. But every now and then games come along that EVERYONE thinks is the greatest thing ever but little ole me cant stand.

Halo, Counter Strike, and Half Life are my top 3 overrated games of all time.

But again it really is just me b/c I'm positive 9/10 people if not 10/10 would tell me I am crazy lol.

I tried the demo and it was fairly cool. I don't know why I like games like that better. I guess it's kind of if I want to see something sort of realistic I'll watch a movie. But when I play a shooter online I want it to be crazy with all kinds of crazy lights and things blowing up.

I know it makes me sound dumb but I do not think I should have to *think that much when playing a FPS.

But sometimes it is really cool when you have to think to play a FPS. I think the problem is the genre needs to be split. In other words right now Unreal Tournament 2004 and Battlefield 2 are both called FPS. But in reality they really aren't very similar at all.

I propose we call them either Pure FPS (UT2004, Quake Series) or Strategic FPS (battlefield, CS, R6)

not sure about your name calling thing, but you can dislike a game if you want, just bring some good reason for it. and in your case, you do.

but it also seem to me that you don't like games that are really popular, maybe because you expect too much about them.

Nah I like alot of games that are really popular. I think my main reason for not liking CS is completely bias and unfair though. You see when it first came out everyone praised it but I didnt have a PC worthy so I couldnt play. By the time I got a PC that would run it everyone else had become masters at the game thus stomping me into the ground everytime I play.

Lol having a terrible kill/death ratio can take the fun out of a game in a hurry. So I just immaturely pretend the game is horrible

I hate it when people say such bad things about Half-Life 2, so I'm gonna throw in one of my old quotes.

"When you show someone a screenshot of an FPS, and they have played the game, they may sometimes remember vaguely the area you're talking about.
When you show someone a screenshot of Half-Life 2, they will instantly say 'Oh, yeah! I remember that part!' Every moment of Half-Life 2 is different and memorable."

The phrase "They are FPS" used by the above poster is something I hate. It's not that "FPSes don't need to have story." It's that "Most makers of FPSes are IDIOTS and all of us have to live with that!"

You thought the marines' once-in-a-game quotes were funny? You listen to Half-Life 2's awesome personalities...
"And if you see Dr. Breen, tell him I said F-*CLANK* YOU!"
"We'll find you another pet headcrab! There are plenty to go around!"
"Sometimes...I dream about cheese."
"Oh no! Gordon!...He's dead.....Dibs on the suit?"
The death of a marine...I can deal with. He signed up for the army, I barely know him, I practically expect him to die at some point. But the characters from Half-Life 2 are unique and have a place. Alyx's suggested death brought on tears to everyone.

I played Quake 4 and honestly didn't see how it didn't get reviews in the 60's. It's the same old, same old, over and over. Shoot an enemy enough times until he dies; sometimes with a new weapon. Also make sure you don't shoot CLOSE with an explosive gun. That's basically all there is to Quake 4. There's no taking cover, not much dodging besides circle-strafing, etc. I got bored of it midway and quit...

I thought the game was a worthy sequel to quake 2 in some ways but i cant help but wish the arenas were larger, and a more diverse amount of enemies. The bosses were simply "pile a load of rockets into them and they'll eventually die". Theres not much strategy involved in this game. Its pretty obvious where you're supposed to go and what you need to do to progress. Which mean's your out of choices when it comes to completing the level in any other way. The graphics engine was good for 2004, RAM hungry at ultra graphics settings but even at that i felt the lighting shouldve been more advanced. Funny thing is, quake wars seems to tick all the boxes quake 4 was missing in terms of gameplay and graphics. bring it on!
