Freeze on Bios loading. Help appreciated.

Thread Starter
On startup, system loads name of mobo, Bios versions, processor then Memory T... and freezes. After sitting about 5-10 min. it will startup. Not the normal process just starts loading windows. I am not able to get into Bios.

I have taken out the battery to reset the Bios. No change.

I changed the memory sticks but no change.

Any suggestions on where to go next?

Thanks,

Carl

unplug your hard drives and optical drives and try to get into the bios with no drives attached.

If it works you just narrowed your problem down to one of your drives.

Unplugged all drives. It still freezes at Memory T.

Also moved the 2 Ram sticks to the other two slots. Still no joy.

Thanks

Leave it unplugged and with the battery out over night.
Try again in the morning only using one stick of Ram at a time.

So I left the computer unplugged and battery out over night. Also disconnected all peripherals, used one stick of ram and replace the video card. On startup it worked fine. Bios loaded. Relief!

As I added items back and restarted, it continued to work correctly. The last peripheral added was my Ipod Shuffle USB. The startup froze at the exact same place as before. Tried different USB ports but it was the same. If I unplugged the Ipod the Bios would continue to load.

I assume this is a defective Ipod and as it is brand new I will take it back.

Thanks for your help.

Carl

You might check the boot sequence in the BIOS. It may be attempting to boot from the USB device.
