Network Cable Unplugged Randomly

Thread Starter
I've been constantly having problems with my internet on my computer (brand new using XP) saying that it isn't connected to a network, when it is in fact plugged in.

Randomly, it seems, my computer becomes unplugged, and so far I haven't been able to fix it. It goes on and off. For example, I might be on MSN or something and it will all of a sudden say my network connection is unplugged (and i'll be logged off MSN, etc.).

Anyone have any ideas? I would really appreciate any help.

Sidenotes:
I'm connecting through a router.
I have other computers on this same router and everything works perfectly fine on them.
I have tried using different cords but it doesn't do anything.
I have tested my laptop on the same router connection and it works.
I installed vista with updated network drivers and it still does the same thing.
I have updated my network drivers.
I'm using a Marvell Yukon 88E8056 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller.
Sometimes it will be fine for days and days and then suddenly go off, or sometimes it will go on and off within hours.
Restarting, etc. does nothing. I have to wait it out.

If it is a wireless router some cordless phones and other household items will cause enough interference to do that. Is your computer the only one having this problem?

EDIT: just read the rest of your post LOL

I just replaced a bad ethernet cable for a customer that was having a similar problem. The bad cable was from the modem to the router so all the computers were doing the same thing. But if only the cable to your computer was bad I could see that being your problem.

Try switching your cable with another computers and try that for a while.

Changing cables seems to do nothing.
However, I just moved my computer downstairs and tested it on this connection I'm on now, and it seemed to be working fine. It just doesn't seem to be working in my room.
I've tested other computers in my room and they work fine.

Do any other computers on the LAN do this? change your port, could be your on a bad port. Make sure your NIC drivers are installed and not basic windows ones. Maybe your NIC is going bad who knows =( Try a Network card see if it does same thing.

none of the other computers do this on the LAN.

i'm not sure what it is..because sometimes i restart and my internet is working, but i'll restart again and it'll say its unplugged.

my drivers are all updated for the most part. hopefully my NIC isn't messed. i'll try and mess around with the ports tomorrow though before i touch that.

Sounds like the same problemI had. To remedy that problem, I had to set the connection speed of the ethernet card ( from 10MB to 100MB or vice versa)
I also was using a crappy 10MB hud (100MB PCs wouldnt stay connected)

Try the LAN connection on the onbaord LAN, it may be the Card or something to do with PIC-E frequency not being locked when OCing?
