Get CPU heat down!

Thread Starter
Wow, ok, I ran pc wizard randomly just to check my CPU, and this is severly abnormal. Maybe its because of the stock cooling or whatnot, but, I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 5200+....and the thing's running, at 1%, at 51 C! Other than going out and buying a better processor fan, is there ANYTHING i can do to cut this down. I had been thinking of OCing my system until seeing that...ow

*sigh* wonder how much a new one'll cost. ...maybe my buddy hasn't gotten rid of his...giant...freakin fan that he bought that he no longer uses because he has liquid cooling :S

So generally, on stock cooling, no touchy for the OCing eh

You can: 1) Lower your ambient temperatures (via AC); 2) Open up your case and direct a fan into your system's interior; 3) Check to see if your HSF is seated properly; if not, then take it off, clean it well, then reapply your TIM and make sure the HSF is mounted properly; 4) Lap your IHS and your HSF's base to eliminate any deformations of the contact surface, and to reduce your TIM; 5) Any and/or all of the above suggestions.

More than likely doesn't help that my apartment is 1: humid (that's why the dehumidifier) and 2: that i have a little bit of room so even with an armor extreme that has air tubes going into the side of it that control airflow, its freakin boxed in between the wall and my desk. yep, fine pickle for me.

There is a cheap cooler that does the job well: Arctic Freezer Pro. Couple that with the AS5 thermal paste. You could try to get only a tube of AS5 and use it with the current HSF, maybe it will lower the temps enough not to need a replacement HSF.

It'll be lower but on the OCing I'm not too sure...

It's free to why not. It's worth up to 15$ because you can get Artic Freezer Pro for about 20 in the right place and that cooler is a bit better / equal to.
