Hi

First try at posting images on a forum…ok, I did it …wee.

Below are 3d model PICs of concept I am currently implementing. The impetus for this layout was a long standing incredulity of my the amount of dead space in the average atx based mid-tower case. So, I set out to max out the smallest box I could with the a most maxed out system I can imuster nside. All In a fittingly tiney budget. Bout 50% pre owned (not Necessarily used) components.

Basic system as it exist in part and/or parts

1 ) Gig. Ds3

2) 2 wd 250 gig drives, 1 sata, 1 pata

3) XfX 7600gs pci expres

4) 550 PSU

5) 2 rads 120 x 1, 1 Innovatek, 1 Blk Ice extreme

6) 6 maybe 7, 120 mm, 120 cfm fans

7 2 gigs Patriot extreme dual channel/

8) DD TDX CPU block, TT NB block

9) E6300 currently @ 3.4Ghz

10) Baby AT case

Basic Layout

rear 3/4 veiw, with acess/side pannel hinged down

Goals,

1)Do it on the cheap!!

2)Max out cooling, summer-ize. No HVAC, subject to out dor ambient temps .

3) Max out speed

3)jam it into the ninimal space (baby at in this case)

4)Put the only things I touch (dvd, reboot, on/of, maybe fan controller) on a little convenient box on my desk.

5)Easy acess to entrails

So that’s it, just want to start a “diary/saga" here. Feed back welcome. More pics of actual build in progress soon.

Regards, Croak

That looks so cool. What program did you use for the modeling?

Good luck working with anything in there. You never appreciate that "wasted" space more than when you're trying to swap out hardware in a tiny case

Looks like it will be a bad place for the mobo components.

How are you planning on keeping the motherboard from overheating? The entire case will be filled with running, hot hardware.

Well, in short, fans. ( I guess my fan models aren’t clear, they’re the turquoise things) Currently there 5 120mm, 120cfm’s, that’s two “push pull” 2 fan/rad set ups vacuuming the guts out @ 120cfm+ each. Then there is another 120 CFM fan blowing directly down on the PCI end of the m-board. To balance it all out ( currently 2 fans/setups blowing out, 1 blowing in) I’ll be strategically placing either another fan (blowing in) or perforations to balance it all out

Since both the main heat emitters (NB & CPU) are water-cooled, I don’t expect the m-board to be a big emitter in it self.

Do you have any reason to think that won’t suffice? Let me know, this is my first go at it.

Thanks Croak

Thanks, and I am to. Waiting for a rad to arrive.

Its quite the hatchet job at this point, but when I get a little further along I'll post some real pics.

Thanks for the encouragement

Ya it does but... why not... So far everying fits on paper (or pixels). the trick is going to be the plumbing + I think my PSU is going to get quite a hair cut (lonnnnggg leads...ba-bye warrenty)

Thanks for confirmation of my mental status.

Gosh, I can’t see how everything could be more accessible. Fold down the rt. Panel (as shown 2nd pic) and spill out the guts, the m-board with everything you mentioned is right there in the raw, like a bare board sitting on your desk??? Look up (slowly now, your nose will hit them) and there s all the other components, drives, fans, rad, etc., ripe for the pickn’.

Maybe my notes and illustration aren’t clear, everything is just sort of blocked out. Sometimes blocks encompass more than one component. On the mboard, for instance, the red horseshoe shaped block actually (& generously) represents the space occupied by the memory, NB heat sink, and the cluster of connectors on the back of the rig. CPU’s somewhere in the middle (not shown) The tall vertical rectangular green things represent PCI + express cards, etc, etc.

What more can I say, split it open (as shown) and the rigs your oyster.
