P5B Deluxe Intel RAID 0 = 2 of 6 disks?

Hi

I have 2 indentical 74Gb WD Raptors that I want to add to my current setup of 4 separate HDDs in RAID 0. I am booting from one of these 4 disks and want to add the RAID 0 WD74 array as a fifth "disk" so I can then clone my boot disk partition from the older drive to the Raid array.

I plug in all six disks to the 6 SATA Intel ports on the P5B Deluxe. Then in the bios I set the IDE configuration to RAID. I then enter the Intel Matrix Rom screen and configure the WDRs to a RAID array, leaving the other disks as NON-Raid. I then make sure the system's set to boot from the correct boot disk...

However, the second Windows starts to load, the system just resets itself.

Shall I try the JMicron controller instead, keeping the IDE configuration as "IDE"? My boot disk only seems to boot in IDE mode.

If I do use the onboard JMicron RAID, which SATA ports should I connect the 2 WDR drives to - the exterior SATA port and the other JMicron SATA port on the actual motherboard? Or do I need an SATA box?

I very much appreciate, as always, your suggestions or knowledge on this matter...

Go HERE to enter system specs

Yes, leave it in the IDE mode if that's the only way it boots. also, only connect the drive that has the boot partition on it, and the two raptors in raid-0, copy the disk, then put back the other three. I asume the four 250GB drives are NOT in any raid configurations?

no, they're not. OK, thanks. I'll try booting first with only the boot drive and the raptors in RAID 0...

Still won't boot with only the boot disk and Raptors connected in RAID mode. I will have to use the JMicron controller instead. But how do I connect both drives to the JMicron controller? It has 1 x SATA (on board) and 1 x [external] connector....

Don't use the Jmicron

Use the Intel ICH8R SATA plug for it
