8600GT crash - Page 2

Thread Starter
Yeah, that what I was thinking and I am definatly still gonna go with another 8600GT. However I have tried underclocking it in increments of 50 down to 200Mhz under stock speed and it was still crashing so it would definatly seem toast.

But, I swapped to a hard disk with XP, then I installed the latest xp drivers for mobo and graphics card, installed ATITool on it and it has been running for 25mins with no artifacts and no hang (I'm typing this on another computer). This is bringing me to think that it could possibly a driver issue because you would expect it to hang as in vista? I am using the same versions of drivers on both operating systems. Could it possibly be that whatever part of the card that is in charge of DirectX stuff is not able to cope with DirectX 10. I don't know how graphics cards work that well so i don't know whether it could still be something to do with the graphics card physically even though it runs on a different operating system.

Later tonight I am going to install a copy of a 64 bit Vista and see whether i have any with luck.

Thanks for all your help so far,
Lightbulb

What can I say? Good luck. I still hope it's a driver issue. The fact the drivers are called the same (158.22 I think) it doesn't mean they're the same for vista and XP.
