Help please, unstable OC ?

Thread Starter
My system was stable orthos blend at 3.5ghz ram 4:5 ratio 486mhz, after I overclocked my GPU 8800gts to core 648 mem 945 I was getting some bluescreens 2 actually.

So from there I started doing some stress tests and this morning I tried to do a 30 min ram test with OCCT and it bluescreened after a few minutes now I was running one notch over 2.2v with timings 4-4-4-10, I also tried 5-5-5-15 with 2.2v and same deal, so should I got for a 1:1 ratio which will be under 400mhz would this hurt my performance at all ?

note I am running fans over my Team Xtreem DDR800 but do I want to push more than 2.2v for 24/7 use

any help on what I should do in this situation would be great

You don't want to push more than 2.2 for 24\\7 use. Drop your devider to 1:1 and try it again. Also change the command rate of your ram and try it.

Oh , yeah the performance difference won't be noticeable.
sure he wants to and can push more than 2.2 with teamgroup ram ..these ram sticks are build with overvolting in mind .

CarbonTi you can push up to 2.3 without extra cooling for the ram , you got cooling for them so if you want/need you could take them up to 2.4 and not worry about burning them .

to stablize things i recommend setting the FSB voltage in bios to 1.400v (this will give aprox 1.42v effective) then set the NB voltage at 1.475v (this will give aprox 1.52v effective)

let me know how that works...

the FSB termination voltage ? that is at 1.2v right now, why so high on the NB right now I have it at 1.325v maybe notch it up one ?

I know the ddr1000 are rated up to 2.3v and I have been told that the ddr800and 1000 are the same chips.

I will try bumbing up the voltages when I get home tonight.

EDIT: so I ran 30min OCCT ram test and I got bluescreen, I them upped the mem voltage to 2.275v upped the FSB and NB, same I got a bluescreen running orthos blend soo hmm I upped the cpu Vcore one notch, then lowered the NB and FSB back to what it was and now at 45 min orthos blend but I am going to have to stop it and will finish testing at another time.

could you tell me why you chose such a high voltage for the NB ? is it because of the 4:5 ratio I am running

curious what is your 34A running at and your team group with what timings ?

i guess youll pass orthos as its kinda light vs OCCT . the reason i recommened uping the NB is cause the NB is your memory controler and is the link between your CPU and RAM .. knowing that the more you up the FSB and RAM freq. the more you need to feed the NB with volts so that it operates properly. btw 1.5v on the NB for a 3.5OC isnt realy high even tho it shows red in bios.

as for my settings just click the link in my sig "home pc" ,info is up to date .

btw yes you are right about team ddr2 1000 being the same chips as ours but the ddr2 800 w/ 3-3-3-8 is also made with the same chips and is rated @ 2.35

personaly i think you should use the setting fsb 1.42v nb 1.52 ram 2.3 ..see if you are stable (i guess you will be ) then you can always fine tune and find the best lowest values .

edit:

the cpu & ram voltage in my system specs are the readings from the hardware monitor ; not what ive set the bios ...if i remember correctly for 1.38/39 bios need to be set at 1.4xx.

edit: adding some screens so you have all my settings...

so after some setting changes my computer was still unstable, I upped the cpu Vcore one and tested it was orthos stable for an hour and had to stop the process hopefully today I can do some longer testing, what I find weird is that my computer was fully blend stable for me than 12 hours and say a month later I am getting bluescreens and the only thing I changed was I OC'ed my GPU..

why I asked such a high NB is because I have had a few conroes and with 400FSB the highest I had to put the NB was 1.3x

oh 3-3-3-8 I think I might have tried that but maybe not at 2.35v ah it is worth a try ? can your mem do that if so at what speed

the blue screens you have are just blue or blue with messages ? if just blue i think its your gpu thats failing... maybe setting pci freq at 105/ instead of 100 "might" help also my pcie voltage is 1 notch above default.

well i ran the ram at 3338 with 2.3v @400mhz(800mhz) and ran benchmarks vs 4448 timings ..i was suprisied with the results 3338 ran slower than 4448 with my setup ..so i wont recommend those settings.

Yeah I also played around with tighter timings and It was slower so I have been sticking to the standard 4-4-4-10, I do have my pci freq at 105 already, the bluescreens have messeges which made me assume it was ram or cpu related and when I got bluescreens running occt ram test, I started changing some settings ie cpu, ram

I left my computer testing with some new settings, so we will see tonight if it is stable

what is the best way to stress my gpu, I scanned with ati tool for an hour and I also run 3dmark06 also played fear do you have any other suggestions to test it ?

EDIT: do you notice differences running 4-4-4-8 compared to 4-4-4-10 ?

also just curious have you done any mods to your commando ie pencil mod or a real mod soldering and such for the Vdroop

i just play stalker and if works with that game i consider my gpu stable, another very stressful game is total commander.( dont realy know if theres some app for gpu stressing other than 3dmark).

didnt realy notice any diffrence with 4448 vs 44410 ..anyhow TRAS timing doesnt realy effect speed so wasnt expecting much change with that. i keep it at 4448 just to showoff lol

nah carbonti, havent done any mods on the board .im a total noob with that kinda stuff.

I ran OCCT ram & cpu test for 12 hours woot, now I just have to see which voltage or voltages were the culprit of my unstable machine

EDIT:

what are you running for your 3 DDRII ref volatges ? I find that when I was running 400mhz speeds I could run them all at the lowest -30 but now I cannot.
