Constant lag with wireless

Thread Starter
My friend who is a fellow competitive gamer has had amazing trouble with lag for the past 3 years. He has a wireless setup and lags when he trys to play a pc game and his dad plays xbox live. Also, he cannot open the anti cheat client required for matches and play at the same time. He gets unbearable lag. He lags in ventrilo (a VoiP program) alot. He has gotten an amazing new computer which didnt fix it. Hes had the comcast cable people out 4 times now and the most recent one said to get D-link wireless gaming router and hes gotten a new wireless card and still lags. Is there a setting somewhere that he missed or what. Hes spent a lot of money and lags alot and HARD. However he can go like 8 minutes with it being perfect. He should definately not lagout when his dad plays xbox online or the client. He hasnt been able to play a league match in forever bc of his lag on the client

tell hiim to check the ports that the games he play use. Make sure he OPENS all of them on the router AND on his firewall. they might be closed on the router, which is what causes the lag.

Example: Starcraft uses port 6112 UDP and TCP. So I have to open that port for both those protocols (udp and tcp) in order to connect to battlenet otherwise it lags like crazy. Google the game name and port, you will find what ports they use, also check the official games' forums or their tech support.

Good luck!!
