Thread Starter
Hello Forum

There are 4 settings in my BIOS that I'm not sure what to set at and hopefully you guys can help.

They are:

"Limit CPUID MaxVal"
"Virtualization Technology"
"Execute Disable Bit"
"HPET Function"

Here's my system (below) and thanks in advance for any help.

Paul

dont touch them, is all I can say. Usually disable bit,Limit CPUID MaxVal and virtualization is off by default. out of those four only virtualization is enabled on mine.

Your temperatures are a bit too high for confort. Is your room extremely hot? if not please consider getting rid of the stock cooler and buying a Big typhoon, an arctic cooler 7 pro or a tuniq tower. Should bring the load temps down to around 50 degrees at 3.0Ghz

EDIT: execute disable bit protects against viruses.read more here

That's helpful, thanks.

So you recommend this cooler: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186134

over the Termaltake one I currently have?

yeah temps are a litlle high, i'd suggest a new cooler, preferably, a nice thermaltake 120, tuniq tower 120 or similar, scythe?

I use virtualization, HPET always disable if you OC, and MAXCPUID disable if you run any OS such as XP or higher, and execute bit is a power saving feature and is virus protection for your bridges...

Limit CPUID MaxVal sets the number of CPU cores displayed to you OS.
Starting with 0, so it is max 3 for a Quad Core CPU.

So if you have a Quad Core CPU and set this to 2 there are only 3 Cores used by your OS, set to 1 and it acts like a Dual Core CPU...

Also older OS may have trouble when there more cores than supported.
But for Windows XP or Vista you don't have to change this.

Virtualization Technology

You may know there are Applications that emulate a Hardware System to try Software without harming your OS.
like "Microsoft Virtual PC", you can test a image version of vista on Windows XP.

A Virtualization Software emulates a hole PC therefore.
Normally all Hardware of this emulated PC is done by your CPU (also the emulated GPU, Northbridge, Southbrige,...).

The Virtualization Technology allows the Software direct access to your real Hardware.
That means less work for your CPU and faster emulation.

It is like a instruction Set.
You can deactivate it, if you never use a Emulated environment but don't have to.

Whether you don't understand me (sorry, native German dude ;o) ) take a look on wikipedia:

I picked up that Thermaltake 775D just off the shelf and I don't know if it's any good.

But my settings are:

CPU-Z:
- Core Speed: 3185.3 MHz
- Multiplier: x8
- Bus Speed: 398.2 MHz
- Rated FSB: 1592.7 MHZ

VOLTS:
- CPU: 1593 @ 1.3625
- MEM: 800 @ 2.0

Maybe a new cooler would help or I'm just being too aggressive with my settings?

Thanks again for the help.
