Looking for advice!

Thread Starter
I am looking for a new monitor. Currently I have an Acer 19" LCD. Its a great monitor and I plan on still using it with a dual monitor set up. I want to get a widescreen monitor with HDMI hook ups for my 360. I am looking for the best one under $500. I really want to get one thats atleast 30" so I can get rid of the giant heat machine TV I have in my room at the moment, anyone have any ideas?

Do you have external sound?

What else do you plan to connect to it? Generally, if a monitor has HDMI connections and it's a PC monitor, not a television, it won't have DVI connections for you.

You can connect your XboX via VGA to achieve a 1080p signal, as well. So, vesting in one that has DVI and VGA would probably be more beneficial all-around as opposed to HDMI standard.

As well, if you're looking for a 30" screen for 500, you should be checking around for actual HD LCD's. The down-side to that is that you won't find anything decent with a resolution of more than 1366x768 in that price range.

A great medium could be a 24" screen with a host of connections that'll satisfy all of your needs.

I have this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836113008

I plan on using it for cable/pc/xbox, I guess thats another thing I missed, I need it to be able to take cable signal.

BTW: thanks for letting me be your 1337's post

LoL. I'm so 1337. =P

But, for serious, I think your happy medium is going to be a decent 24" capable of accepting inputs. For example:

1 YbPbR/RGB/Component Input - Cable Box
1 VGA input - Xbox 1080p
1 DVI input - PC Hardware
1 Composite Input - PS2? GameCube?

And most of the time, at that price range, you still have 1 YbPbR left, 1 VGA left, 1 S-video left.

Although you'll have to save up a few more bucks for a 24" screen with the options.

Hmm, so I could still the HD quality gaming and videos from my xbox with just a VGA input? Sorry, I dont really know that much about all the new HD crap. I am not looking for the OMG factor quality, but I am trying to avoid having to buy a super expensive HDTV with a comperable monitor.

One thing I've yet to figure out is if you can feed a protected 1080p signal over VGA. That might require some searching/researching.

I would really suggest you checking out the Gateway FPD2485W and the DELL 2408 24" Widescreen monitors; in that specific order.

Sounds like you'll want a few extra connections and the flexibility to choose which-goes-where. My number one recommendation is the Gateway FPD2485W which can be found on Ebay for about 530.00 Brand new.
