GeForce 8000 Series Price Cut May Come Soon

According to the graphics card makers, NVIDIA may be cutting prices across the board soon and advising some of their partners to keep their inventory low. GeForce 8800 Ultra should be receiving the biggest cut and price may fall to as low as US$599. 8800GTX and 8800 GTS prices may be lowered as well to better compete against the Radeon HD 2900XT. 8600GTS and 8600GT should receive some price cuts as well when HD 2600 and 2400 cards start to flood the market. It seems that NVIDIA is adopting the price cutting strategy to put down their competitor before they have any chance to recoup any market share.

Sweet. If the eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTX drops under $500 without rebates then I'll strongly consider it (I don't own one yet , using an ATi Radeon X800XL).

So I know this is smart business and all for Nvidia, so I am not questioning that... but this basically makes me feel like, "Well, we've been shafting you (the consumer) for the past half a year, and now we'll drop prices and shaft ATI too! YAY!"

I know that pretty much every major card has debuted at around $500, and if you count in inflation they actually are getting cheaper every generation, but I still can't help feeling like I'm getting ripped off a little with all of these lawsuits flying about.

Hooray for lower prices I guess though.

Well, the CEO's and shareholders do at least. I just wish that they would turn a bit of that cash around into making a card that didn't turn my beloved silent PC into an EZ-bake oven.

Oh well, I still bought one didn't I?

Overclock a normal 8800GTS; you'll save another $10-15. You could probably get an 8800GTS up to 600MHz Core and 1800MHz Memory on stock cooling.

They are $900-700, depending on the (e)Retailer. If the price cut is more than $100 than it is a very good thing; because that means a good amount off of the 8800GTX. Currently, an eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTX is $559 at newegg (before any rebates/deals). If that price becomes $499-$449 I'll be very happy.
