GeForce 8000 Series Price Cut May Come Soon - Page 4

The introduction of the 8800 Ultra - essentially an overclocked 8800 GTX - relegated the GTX to second-fastest-videocard-in-the-world status. But with the 8800 Ultra weighing in at the $800 mark, who in their right mind would pay an extra $260 for an overclock?

GeForce 8800 Ultra should be receiving the biggest cut and price may fall to as low as US$599
What a deal
This is great news though. Let the price war begin! BTW, this disproves all of you worry warts that said the 2900XT wasn't a competition and NVidia wouldn't lower prices.

If the ultra is at 600$, then the GTX may very well be below the GDDR4 1GB version of the 2900XT price. It may be competing in price with the 2900XT 512mb. I'm gonna SLI in a friggin heartbeat if GTS 320 drops below 200$. Especially since eVGA is always competitive and loves to give lots of rebates.

Yes there is technically not alot in it but nonetheless the Ultras have proved time and time again they have more headroom and better silicone and the faster Samsung memory as well.

You're right, that makes it worth the extra $400.00

well if the 8800gts drops to a nicer number i will be getting two but then i need a new mobo because my PCIx16 slots are two close together for my liking and won't give the cards enough air gap.

edit: i mean a second 8800gts

As in the other thread value for money is different for everyone.

For someone who makes $400 by lunchtime it would seem like a good deal!
