8800 GTS artifacting in BF2142

Thread Starter
I've got an XFX 8800GTS 640MB that I've had for about a month or so. Best FX card I've owned so far, I'm able to run most of my games on the highest resolutions at max settings (BF2, CS:S, Supreme Commander, C&C3, Rainbox Six Vegas)

Well I noticed today that with Battlefield 2142 with max settings, 2X AA on 1280x960 (I think it was), I would get some artifactng, in which some of the details on the map would turn yellow and stay yellow throughout the game. I've also noticed that when I attempt to exit the game, my computer will freeze up.

My 8800 is running stock, with no overclocks. I have tried overclocking it prior to mess around, but never run with in game tests.

Any ideas to what might be causing this? Maybe my settings or resolution is too much for the card to handle Or should I think about RMAing the card?

EDIT: Added screenshot of problem.

First, that's one odd resolution.

The standard 4:3 resolution that's close to that one is 1280x1024, and the comparible widescreen resolution is 1440 x 900.

Are these just like the little yellow dots... or larger areas that get distorted. If larger, then I would assume it's a glitch in the game (since your other games run fine). If little dots, then they could be true artifacts, but still... they don't disappear, so that's odd.

I am thinking it's a glitch in the game.

Well, it's not small dots, but full size artifacts I guess you could call it.

For example, when I zoom in with a sniper scope, the outside that should be blacked out will sometimes appear all yellow. Or another instance, when I was using the mech, the palm trees appeared to be yellow when I would look at them at a certain angle.

Oh, and my computer has froze once while this has happened.

SAME! That happens to me on F.E.A.R. I will be lurking in this thread for a solution. Thank you for posting this problem. I always forget to do it.

Have you run Ati tool scan for artifacts? 15+ Minutes and 0 errors?

you can always reinstall the game

Oh, I saw so many videos of this on youtube, everything would turn yellow as the guy would walk using a 8800GTX, it's mostly a driver/game issue, not a video card issue.

Ok, good to know I'm not the only one with the problem. Hopefully Nvidia or Dice can get their stuff straight with the drivers or the game patches.

I have not been playing BF2142, but I have been playing Oblivion, and UT 2004. Both Oblivion and Ut freeze up while the music repeats. Eventually they both free up, but this is of coarse a nuissance. In Oblivion I have noticed that walls and other things turn purple or yellow depending on the angle. I have not had this problem in CS:Source so I don't think its my graphics card. Obviously its some software problem. Someone suggested reinstalling XP but that is a pain in the butt and might not fix it. How do I do a reboot fix? I am assuming this is with the windows disk, but I am still unfamiliar at how this works.
