e2140 vs X2 3600+ Brisbane

Thread Starter
hey guys, I just wanted some facts and opinions on which one you rather get and why.

These are the reasons you cannot use..

1. You are an AMD / Intel Fanboy
2. Amd Is Dying and needs support / to be killed
3. Intel Needs Competition => AMD FTW
4. Cause its a Conroe.

I will not state my opinion due to the fact that I want to be in the middle of this arguement. Id like to see each opinion from the over clocking enthusiast, and the stock kind of guys.

vs
X2 3600+ - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103046

Thanks.

PS. Any reasons with valid proof would be great.

I will test my E2140 Q705 in a week or two, just stay tuned. They occasionally hit 3ghz+ on stock volts.

E2140 hands down.

e2140 = much better overclock.

That's why.

Well the 2140 beats the 3800 so I assume it beats the 3600. Also it will OC like crazy. 3.4 levels can be expected.

I'd go 3600, because i doubt (although can't say I've ever saw e2140 in action) you will get 24% more (price difference) performance from e2140.

If my information is right, the E2140 would beat because C2D have 12-15 op cycles over the 3600+ which has 9?

At stock, it seems to be close to a tie:
http://xtreview.com/addcomment-id-21...benchmark.html

So it depends on overclockability. We know the 3600+ can hit 3.2GHz with some luck, and I haven't checked myself on the overclockability of the E2140

Taidinh: can we PLEASE finally forget about the silly ops/cycle thing. It has too often be proven to be an incorrect assumption. Core technology doesn't really work that way anymore (actually, neither technology ever did)

EDIT:

More benchies:
http://xtreview.com/review204.htm

At stock, I'd call a tie between the E2140 and the X2 3800+. Since the X2 600+ and the X2 3800+ don't differ that much, I am also callign a tie between the E2140 and the X2 3800+ AT STOCK.

However, from an overclocking perspective, I see here they overclocked the E2140 to 3.4GHz. You won't hit that with the X2 3600+. So, pure performance: the E2140 takes the win.

Now, we have to take price into consideration. We need not only look at the CPU, but also at a motherboard that's capable of a good overclock also.

for the X2 3600+, we know that the Biostar tForce 550 is a good overclocker. For the E2140, I call in the Gigabyte DS3 v1.3.

Price for the AMD set up: $146.99
Price for the Intel set up: $182.99

Thus, they're not really in the same class.

Price vote for AMD

Total: tie, with a slight advantage for AMD given the price, and in everyday use, the difference would not be noticable (unless you match it in gaming with an 8800GTX)

I don't know who to believe

Either way that benchmark that was linked to showed the e2140 winning in benchmarks, which is nice, but the 3800 beat it in all the games that were benched.

So I'd revise my statement to saying they seem about equal...

Edited my previous post... calling a tie.

It's unfair to compair CPUs that are in different price classes. If you compare... do it right

Of course the problem is that AMD doesn't have a price-matching CPU
