Innovatek rad, to much restriction in 1/2 id loop??

Thread Starter
Hi,

I bought a used Innovatek 120 x 1 rad. The thing is sold stock with wee fittings for 8mm ID hoses, presumably because Innovatek’s loops are so efficient. I want to use this rad to augment my current BLK Ice extreme on a ½ ID loop. One reseller implied that running anything over 3/8 id hose could cause bad things (restriction?)…. B.S., truth or half truth.?

If this is true, could I (should I) rig the rads in parallel. Sort of pump the H20 thru a “Y” splitter, one split to each rad input via. The rejoin them together again at the rads output...Logic being, the Innovatek (if it’s indeed restrictive)will take only what it can use, the excess of the flow and pressure will back up & branch of to the Blk Ice rad.

Also, any adverse effect of blowing more air through it than is spec’d ?

Hope that makes sense, any thoughts?

What all do you have on this loop?

Why don't you go Rad then CPU then rad then GPU/HDD w/e then back to the first Rad?

sounds more efficient to me that way

Not much, DD tdx cpu block, TT NB block, Hydor 400gph pump, & 2 (by happenstance) 120x1 rads.

Because from what I've gleaned, the Inovatech (sic) has more resistance than the other rad, How much, I dunno, thats what I'm trying to find out. But if its sifnifcant, useing a setup as you describe means all the h2o needs to run through this (Inovatech) "bottle neck".

My diagram suggest a possible scheme where it dosn't.

Thanx..

Haha, thats a load of BS, he was just trying to sell it to you. 1/2inch, any inch is putting water in your pc, which can = to trouble if your not careful yes. But running anything over 3/8id = bad things? hahaha thats just a stupid.

I see what your saying Y'ing it like that you can always try it and see you will only be out a couple of Y's and a little tubing..I think it will just by-pass the restrictive rad but why not give it a shot since you already have it.....

As far as using higher cfm fans it will help up to a point...Even a really thin rad like the BIP will see a lot of gains with higher cfm fans...It will flatten out after a certain spot of course..

Thanks,Apollo4g, ira-k, lavieinjuste, ReCoiL, & dr4gon, for your, input and mirth. Seems to be a consensus here, kinda thought it wa a bit of B.S to.

The only reason I humored the veracity of the claim was because the stock connectors are actually little weenie 5/16 OD, I figured the tubes inside might be pretty d*m tiny to. So, I think I’ going to go with the layout illustrated just because it can’t hurt (no?), and could only help and the rad, any rad is the biggest drag on a loop.

Thanks again…
