Overclocking E6420:Help me Improve!

Thread Starter
OK guys I have fooled around with o/cing my e6420 a few times before but nothing above e6600 speeds.

So far my FSB is 350x8 (1400). That brings me to 2.8Ghz.

I ran Orthos for 10 minutes with a Max load temp of 46c. I also ran Prime95 15 minutes, no errors.

Now I didn't touch the Ram speeds/timings, that's all stock.

So how did I do? Advice and suggestions always welcome!

A few screen shots.

Thanks

with 42°C load temps youve still got 10+ free (depending on your ambient)

You would get a big performance increase if you set the FSB to 400 and the RAM divider to 1:1, then put the multi at 7 if you dont want to OC it anymore.
For that you wouldnt need any more Vcore or anything in theory, all you would do is improve ur RAM-CPU communication

Or, like me, put the divider at 8 for a neat and easy 3.2GHz. Your system seems cool enough.

Well, after feeding it Volts it still seems to want more.

Am I doing this right?

Ok, so youve upped the FSB to 400 and multi to 8 giving you a 3.2 OC.
Do you need this much Vcore or is the board automatically upping it for you?

Does ur system not post with the normal Vcore (1.3)?
Edit: Just saw the error message in orthos. Maybe loosen your Ram timings to 5-5-5-15. I am not sure what volts ur board needs but with me the NB and SB volts were what destabilized my system. Maybe someone here has the same board and some experience with it.

If its not the board i would be weary to go above 1.45v, its quite alot and at 1.5 your really stressing ur CPU.

Yes I needed this much Vcore to post.
Vcore is Not on Auto
wont boot with anything under 1.4

I'll try loosening the timings. I haven't tried that yet
I upped the board volts a notch, didn't seem to help.

Edit: Batch L644G445 Pack Date 04/03/07

Ok Loosen timings and still Fails instaltly

im feeding mine 1.45v, and with your temps i can only recommend trying it. (if you havent already done so)
with this much i run 3.36 stable.
and what are your chipset voltages? if theyre not too high, increasing those a little can do miracles.
(though im not experienced with your board)

So I lowered the multi to 7 which gave me 2.8. That seems stable so far at almost 5 hours. But I want to break 3Ghz!! And I can't get 400FSB 1:1 Stable, I think I'd have to push MORE then 1.45Vcore. Tell me what you guys think

I still think I have lots of improving to do. but so far so good. (stable)

I just ran 3dMark06: Link

Let me know how I did. I have Never ran 3dmark before, or any benchmark for that matter.

Edit: oh wait I did run 3dmar06 once before with Cpu stock and it was 9.5K from what I can remember.

I have a similar setup so I think I'm going to try some of these suggestions myself as I'd like to get 3ghz.

What is getting your memory to run "1:1"? I've seen it mentioned a few times around here but haven't ever seen anyone explain what it is.

Your more then welcome to post here (just don't get carried away stealing my thread not that it's popular..) anyway.. The 1:1 sync from what I gather makes your Ram run same speed as your Fsb = Best performance.
