New nVidia Series?

Thread Starter
I have heard that there is a new nVidia series of cards coming out in Q4 of this year. Should I hold off on my purchase of an 8800 GTS Superclocked 640 MB card for them and buy a cheaper substitute to last me till then (like a 7950 or something)?

Cheers

Not sure if it's a full blown new series. They may release an 8900 with GDDR4, or they may hold off until the 9xxx series to use GDDR4. There's no official word I've heard yet, so I'd say just wait and see. I still think getting an 8800GTS would be a fine and dandy idea, as I doubt the 8900s will be worth the money for some time, and the 8800 will still make you a happy man. That being said, until DX10 games actually start to come out, nothing matters with the DX10 cards out there. Once Crysis and UT2007 come out, then it will actually matter which DX10 card you get. For now, buying a DX10 card means a few things.

1.) Bigger E-Penis
2.) Excellent DX9 performance
3.) The chance to play DX10 games, but who knows what they'll perform like on current hardware

For DX9 yes....please be aware that by purchasing a DX10 card you taking a gamble, on most DX10 demo releases ALL DX10 cards have scaled poorly.

This could be from poor drivers, or poorly coded games. Or infact poor DX10 cards. We do not know yet. That is a risk you have to take

IMO you snhould buy a DX9 card and play the waiting game. Because there aren't any DX10 titles you can use it on anyways, so it's pretty much pointless.

But fi you are like me and you are pretty stupid. You will just by the 8800 and hope it will do well in DX10

It is your decision, no decision you choose will end up being a bad one.

Well, Company of Heroes is DX10 now, and the Call of Juarez benchmark came out, so there's at least some DX10 out there.

Once they have the games out if there are any problems we should get drivers. I think I will buy the 8800. DX10 demos are only that: demos, and most demos I have used/played do not translate to how things will actually work/perform.

Cheers
