4X512 possible issues

Thread Starter
I currently have 2X512 corsair's. I had bought some a-data Vitesta(?) 2X1gb and could not OC with them.. so I sold the 2X1 gb sticks and bought 2 more 512 sticks of corsair's(same models). If I throw these in, will I lose my OC or will it be ok? Am I going to run into any issues with 4 sticks as compared to 2? thanks in advance.

I think 4 sticks of memory puts more strain on the memory controller thus limiting the OC.

AMD chips don't like 4 DIMMs. Since the memory controller is built into the CPU, I can imagine 4 sticks could hold back your OC.

well if you've got them running ~200mhz (*before you account for the DDR x2 thing) you'll be ok. using 4, you'll get limited because the internal memory controller in the AMD proc gets worked hard.

but the Asus A8's drop the memory speed setting to 333mhz spec instead of the regular 400mhz spec. I'm not sure if it's like that on other mobo manufacturers, but i know the A8's will do that unless you change it yourself in the bios.

i've fiddled around using 4 sticks of spare value-ram i had at the time and @ default it's gonna drop them to 333mhz.

Yeah AMD's CPU's have memory controllers, the less sticks, the better.

While I have heard that AMD's like only 2 stick's I have 4x512 and it does not hold back my oc. I will upgrade to 2x1gb 800mhz in the future, but so far my 4 ram sticks don't seem to have any compatability issues with my oc.

I know recent AMD memory controllers are far superior to Intel ones, if an Intel controller could hold up this on a Intel equivalent then i would say you are good. I do ,however, get the feeling the memory controller might generate more heat and cause the CPU temp to rise a degree or two. Purely speculation of course.

You may run into issues if you are using Windows Vista 32 bit. Last i heard Windows Vista 32 Bit Does not know how to use 4 GB efficiency.

EDIT

nvm i actually just looked at the title and your not using 4gb sorry.
