Zalman 9700 vs. Big Typhoon for AM2

Just curious, does anyone have these 2, or maybe tested them both??

I've always heard good things about the Big Typhoon, but my friend (who also frequents these boards) swears by Zalman, and I can also get Zalman cheaper.

So, any input??

Thanks in advance!

I owned the zalman 9700 and it did not much more than my stock 4 pipe cooler with a 73cfm fan on it. So i sent it back.. I have not tried the TTBT but if i get another cooler, that is the one ill be getting.

Get the big typhoon. It will outperform the Zalman in most cases. Really depends on your airflow but I would say Big Typhoon. I own a Zalman and I think they are a little overrated.

I'm using the older sisters (Zalman CNPS9500 AM2 and Thermaltake Big Typhoon non-VX) of these HSFs in other rigs. Both are good if you know how to use them properly.

The Big Typhoon is much more user-friendly in terms of not requiring optimized airflow to its fan. Another of its great advantages is that you can use your own fan if you think the stock one is inadequate.

The Zalman, on the other hand, requires that you have good wire management (to minimize obstructions in the airflow path) to optimize its performance. Its big failing is the difficulty in changing its proprietary fan should it 1) prove to be not powerful/quiet enough, or 2) fail from fatigue/wear and tear.

Hope this helps!
