Overclocking issue with GA-965P-DS3

Thread Starter
I am having trouble over clocking my current set up through the bios, every time I up the FSB by more then 10 over default my system wont boot, my fans turn on and the computer seems to attempt to reboot endlessly. I also get similar results when adjusting ram speed. I have RAM that is on the list of compatible ram on gigabyte's website. For some reason EasyTune 5 is still able to over clock FSB and voltages after the computer has already loaded windows on default settings.

Current system:

E6600 2.4 Ghz
GA-965P-DS3 rev 3.3
ATI X1950 Pro 512mb
OCZ PC2 8500 2gb DC

My power supply is only 500w so this may be the problem, but I'm looking for alternatives before i buy a new one. Thanks a bunch.

Velcome to OCN. Up at the top of the page is USER CP. Check that then show us the rest of your CPU build components. You might get more help that way.

Have you updated your bios? What power supply do ya have?

I updated my system in the User CP. Thanks for the tip
I'm only using the f10 bios because i heard f11 was unstable or something of the sort. My PS is an EarthWatts 500w, came with my case.

What are your bios settings looking like? Autos or have you manually adjusted ram timings and everything?

Take off Easytune. You can't overclock with the bios with it installed.

I had that problem a while ago. I just waited a while because I could figure it out. My computer wouldn't hold the overclock. It would try to boot 2 or 3 times then boot with the default settings. It may have been the RAM not wanting to get overclocked. You can't set it on a divider so that might have had something to do with it.

That's not true. I have EasyTune5 installed and running on boot. I never use it? But, it doesn't interfere with my OC at all.

It's probably the ram, as you've suggested.

To the OP: Post Bios settings and we'll inspect.

For the most part my BIOS settings are just autos, including ram timings. I have been able to adjust the overvoltage on the ddr2 to +.3v which takes it to what it should be by default(2.1v). I tend to leave the CPUv alone because I'm not going for an insane over clock, but even when i do adjust it upwards i have the same boot issues. The only settings i adjust are FSB, memory speed multiplier and ddr2 voltage.

I'll have to post specific settings in an hour or so as I don't have the computer infront of me ATM.

Turn your ram timings off of auto. You do this by going back to the main bios screen and pressing ctrl + F1 simultaneously, and then going back into the tweaking section.

Set to your Ram's specific and 2T.

Set your Multi and FSB to your desired OC and change the ram multi/divider accordingly. for 1:1 it would be 2 on the DS3 board.

Also, make sure that your vCore (OverVoltage on the DS3) is adequate. I'd suggest going up to 1.35, then slowly backing down after like 80 restarts.

The default vCore is 1.35 if I'm not mistaken(whoops, i was way off. 1.187-1.325). I'll give those suggestions a shot and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the help.
