IMHO a 8800GTS 320 MB will do well enough in Dx10 to be able to play at 1440*900 max details and maybe some 2xAA/8xAF. It seems a fine deal to me, and it's even better if you have the money to get a 2900XT or a GTX.
So i should sell it now?

I would. If not now, at the latest towards mid-July, but it would be risky.

I don't know much about American's psychology, but here in Europe computer buyers are 70% non-savvy people. Right now you can say to them "I'm selling you one of the best VID cards. It runs everything maxed out!" and money should pop. I said mid-July, because by then it's likely the big guns begin the marketing campaigns for the back-to-school season with Dx 10 titles, that your card can't run.

Say you're in September with the 1950XT. Can you say "I'm selling you one of the best cards out there, it runs everything!"? You could, but it would be a lie, and news travel fast. At that point, a guy with a 8800GTS 320MB will steal your client, because his card is one of the best and runs everything.

This is how I'm thinking, that's why I'm telling you to sell it while you still can, with a nice profit. The profit comes from the fact that you will upgrade eventually , but if you do it in fall you'll have to cover from your pocket the depreciation of your VID card.

My 2 cents.

It all depends on if he has a budget or not. If he can spend an extra $100 or so, the smart thing would be to return the card (not sell it unless you can make money on it) and buy the GTS or XT.

Next, he should look at his system. Can he afford the heat and power drain of a X2900XT, for the slight performance increase (and ability to Fold on it), or does he want a slightly lower performing card that for a bit less.

More than likely, as i see that you don't even fold, he would go with the 8800GTS.

Wait, but what if another series of DX10 appears like the X2800XTX and the prices drop significantly wouldnt he lose money? I think its kinda better to risk till mid july

You guys are funny

I am going to buy a new MB today, as I just purchased a new Q6600. I am either going to get one of the following MBs; I am leaning towards the Gigabyte, because I am tired of ASUS:

1) GIGABYTE GA-P35-DQ6
2) ASUS P5K DELUXE

Does this help in anyway with deciding which card to purchase?

1) 8800GTS 640MB
2) HD2900XT

Thanks again,

I dont kno i think ASUS is better but if you like gigabyte wel buy it theres almost no difference between them..
You could buy the HD2900XT its somtimes better than 8800GTS sometimes worser, you could keep your money a little and wait till they realease the other DX10 cards like X2800XTX, that will make the prices drop and u can get a 2900xt for like 275-325$ in a few months

It's always like that, and it's good it is. You have a choice, and he has a choice. Also the buyers have choices, and you'll have to recognize that if a 2800XT appears (I've heard of 2900pro but I guess we mean the same thing) and it will be cheaper than the 2900XT, it will be all the more reasonable to think that you (he) in turns will have to lower the prices to acomodate this new competitor..

Now, you could sell it in my opinion at a price slightly superior to a 8800GTS 320MB. Sensible reasons (pluses and minuses):
- it is better (far better in the case of a x1950XTX) than it in Dx9 - plus
- it doesn't support Dx10 - minus
- most don't even know that a Dx is (plus)
- some do, and the ones paying 300+ on a VID card have at least heard of it (minus)

Performance-wise they are balanced to a point where 1440x900 or 1600x1200 is playable on both, depending on the game, with AA/AF.

Wow, you are one smart person, i think your right, once i told a x1950pro could play all the new games on maxed settings and i got 220$ off the card on ebay a few weeks ago. And normally they sell on ebay for 100-150$
