NVIDIA claims COJ DX10 is rigged for ATI.

The Call of Juarez Benchmark released last Friday is one of the first few DirectX 10 benchmarks for public to try out. According to NVIDIA however, the benchmark includes new code that substantially reduces performance of NVIDIA hardware. Basically, it is claimed to be very skewed towards ATi hardware. The key issues brought up are:

NVIDIA's DX10 hardware-based multi-sampled Anti-Aliasing resolve is disabled in the benchmark, with all NVIDIA GPUs now being forced to use software-based AA resolve similar to the ATI DX10 GPU (which lacks hardware AA resolve). This artificially deflates performance on NVDIA graphics cards and users are not getting the benefit of a key NVIDIA hardware feature.

A hidden "ExtraQuality" parameter only accessible via a configuration file is automatically enabled when the benchmark is run on NVIDIA hardware, no matter what the setting in the configuration file. This setting has no apparent visual quality enhancement, but reduces NVIDIA GPU performance.

Changes to shaders that deflate NVIDIA performance by approximately 10-14%, without improving visual quality on either NVIDIA or ATI GPUs.

It is interesting to see that battle on the GPU frontier seems to have spilt over to the games.
http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=5057

This would be why the nvidia users are seeing such bad performance.

EDIT: Guys stop with the fanboy stuff, this wasn't posted to make a flame war, i'm getting sick of people going on and on about fanboy stuff! I posted this to show the future of what could come to PC gaming, when games are required to have a ATI card to run a game smoothly, or a NVIDIA card. I am not a fanboy, so don't say that I am.

If the industry starts doing this... I can see people finding a way to sue for it.

'Nvidia says....'

This is not a fact, i'm sorry but there is no evidence present.

The only thing i see is Nvidia crying because they lost just as bad as ATI

I am in no way an ATI fanboy, i am and will purchase the 8800GTX when i find the money in a few months.

But we have to face it that they are not looking good on DX10 platforms........Its not only COJ that it failed on...........

Eh. I don't see how 14% of 20fps is going to account for anything

[(I AM IN NO WAY SAYING THE 8800's ONLY GET 20FPS, I AM MERELY STATING THAT ALL GPU'S DO KIND OF SUB-PAR IN COJ) and in DX10 apps they kinda blow goats also]

You do realise that Crysis could go in Nvidia's favour with coding too.

COJ runs at 9FPS while other DX10 are atleast playable on very-high max with a G80. COJ isn't playable on any setting. I've ran the lowest possible settings and still have stutters on my computer.

DX10 is not to blame, its the fact that games are "patched" to DX10. Native DX10 should perform fine.

And I highly doubt NVIDIA would claim this if it wasn't true, that would be a bad move on their part.

I understand that these are patched DX10....were coding is horribly pathetic.

But that is not what Nvidia are claiming here.

If Nvidia were serious about this, they would not release a press without SOME form of evidence.

Anyways this is my last post. I can't be bothered to turn this into an arguement....enjoy

I just foresaw a grim future where so many people had to buy the top-end Nvidia AND the top-end ATi cards, because many games require on-or-the-other, that motherboards made x16 slots hot-swappable.

From what I can tell, it's looking to me that ATi hasn't dramatically failed in the quality/performance of the 2900XT. Neither the drivers nor the card itself are mature and it will usually give the Nvidia hardware a run for it's money. But the Nvidia still wins.

As for the real issue at hand, where have you guys been? "The way it's meant to be played," anyone? Games have been heading this way for sometime, and with as polarized as we all get it was only a matter of time before the game devs got that way too. And I'm sure that they were compensated some how.

Or, it's true... Valve coded parts of Source to work better with ATI cards than nVidia cards.
