Norton...

Thread Starter
Right, for some reason, (yes... I already know Norton is a resource hog) Norton is causing my boot speed to fall dramtically, all other processes start quickly and efficiently, while Norton loads my proc to death, and renders me helpless for 5 min...

Does anyone know a way to reduce the Norton load ammount + time? Its a real pain in the arse when ive gotta get something done quickly.

And before anyone asks, ive disabled all other user processes on boot, so im afraid it IS Norton. And yes, norton is fully up to date, ive run live-update 3 times and installed it all until it said "Your Product is Up to Date"

Thanks in advance

Yes. Uninstall Norton and download AVG or AVAST. Free and not a resource hogger.

That's why we don't recommend Norton. When I removed Norton from my Dell with their stupid propertiary(sp?) software, my boot speed increased dramatically.

Unless you HAVE to have Norton(for work, or school computer), than I recc. getting rid of it and getting AVG it's free or next to free, takes less resources, and actually workes better at tracking malware/viruses.

I just got rid of my Norton!

I've used Norton for ever and I've had the same bootup problems along with others. I have AVG on my other computer and I just installed Active Virus Shield from AOL. AVS being from AOL and all I thought it was going to be horrible, but it found around 5 trojans the minute I installed it and its absolutely free. I would definately recommend it or AVG, they both do a great job for free!

Hmmm... I would go take a look around in settings and see if you can turn off some of the services. I would try turning off everything except a weekly virus scan.

If you do that you may as well have AVG. Norton doing a weekly scan would cause your PC to go to hell for a few hours every week and usually won't catch it all and still each week you may as well have AVG / AVS / AVAST

Sorry to piss on your bonfire mate, but please read the rest of the post.

However, im a bit scarred with free anti-virus programs, the last one deleted all my registry; and I bet you all know it... "Spybot Search and Destroy" I tend to get solid products that I can get support with
