Dell 1501 Laptop Question....

Thread Starter
Hi guys, this is more an upgrade question than an overclocking question, but I figured if ever there was a place someone would know the answer, this would be the place.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop, with an AMD Sempron 3500 (1.8Ghz) CPU. On the Dell website, this model is advertised as supporting the Sempron, the Turion 64, and the Turion 64x2 dual core. My question is, I want to swap the Sempron for a Turion 64X2, say the TL-60 (2Ghz Dual Core). All I need to do is swap the chips themselves right? Moving to the dual core doesn't require a motherboard change does it? I got this thing for free from someone that moved up to an Inspiron 9400, and I'd love to drop a TL-60X2 in it. I work on laptops so the physical swap is no big deal, but I cant find anything that confirms whether it's a simple chip swap or not. Anyone know for sure?

Oh and btw, I DO have a 2500-M Barton (1.8Ghz) running on an Asus board at 2.4Ghz on water cooling, so don't think I aint down with the OC
Peace!

You may need a motherboard flash to support dual core, at least you did in the past (as in older mobos, which you're is...kinda). The problem with that is that you don't know where to download that fix because dell makes their own mobos. I'm just saying this, I could be completely wrong, and if that's the case, someone will catch me and help ya.

P.S. Head to (upper left) Quick Links>Control Panel>Edit system. You can fill in your system specs there instead of your sig.

Well, I did flash the BIOS with the latest offering from the Dell download site, so hopefully that will get me "capable". I'd really love to be able to go dual core on this rig. With 1Gb of Ram and a Radeon x1150, I can play most games, but would love to have the horsepower of the TL-60 x2. Since I got it for free, I figured investing in a cpu upgrade would be worthwhile since I have no money in it.

Anyone got any ideas? Still trying to find out if all I need to do is swap the proc for this unit. BIOS is already flashed....just need to know what else if anything I need to do to put a TL-60 x2 (2.0Ghz) cpu into this laptop. Currently running a 1.8Ghz Sempron. The Dell site says it's supported, just doesn't say if it's a simple swap out or not. Anybody know?
