nVidia Geforce 8800 GTS 320MBASC/3 or ATi HD2900XT??? - Page 3

id go for the hd2900xt, in fact i did go for the 2900xt. i was deciding between the same 2 cards as you and i went with the 2900 because ive had a few ati cards and always been happy. ive always found ati to have superior image quality to nvidia especially with my x1900 compared to the 7900's that couldnt even do hdr with aa while the ati ones could. anyways, i decided on going with the 2900 and i couldnt be happier. it runs just as cool as my all in wonder x1900 did and its not really any louder either, the stock cooler does an excellent job. as for power i have a good quality 610 watt and ive never had a hiccup with it. at 2d speeds i cant even hear the hd2900 fan over the noise from my case fans. but the proof as they say is in the pudding and i went from 5000 3dmark06 with my AIW x1900 to over 9000 with the hd2900, also i can play the full version of DiRT at ultra quality all options at max at 1152x864 res and get an average of 70 frames per second or more, its a thing of beauty let me tell you. my results in the fear performance test with everything maxed, soft shadows on,1152x864 resolution were- min 47, max 193, avg 89. its harder to play now without that slight delay when guys start swarming at you. runs as smooth as can be though. i havent owned an 8800 gts so i cant comment on that but if you do go with the hd2900xt you wont be disappointed.

Get 8800GTS 320MB, it should play most if not all games on Max setting with that resolution

I'd go with the HD 2900XT as a 8800GTS320 owner, the 320mb will not max out everything at 1280x1024, I cannot max out ArmA, Dirt or Star Wars Galaxies.

Contrary to that, I can max out DiRT on my 8800 320 at 1280 x 1024 Thank you very much ;P

Just at some points the framerates aren't that good, but otherwise it runs smoothly the entire time.

Edit - Drivers for the 2900's? They were the new ones and were supposed to have fixed some of the previous downfalls of the card, but according to the results, that is not the case.
Those are beta drivers. [H] might as well test the 2900 with cat 6.x drivers.

your 8800 gts 320mb performing on the same level as the 2900xt? ... you wish
