And what good is finding the cure for diseases if by doing so we increase energy use? Look at it this way: Increase research and possibly find cures to major diseases while killing the planet. In other words save a few, kill everyone. Sure computers don't use that much energy compared to transportation and industry, but every little bit does make a difference.

Oh and now I'd like to bring in overpopulation. This world is already bursting at its seams with people. Just look at Europe and Asia. Maybe in the United States we are all very comfortable but not for long. What if the many forms of plagues that swept across Europe in the past centuries had never occurred? What if AIDS and cancer and all the other diseases, viruses, illnesses did not exist? Well we would have a whole lot more people, a whole lot more pollution, a whole lot more mouths to feed, and more than you can ever imagine.

I'm not saying give up, but look at the bigger picture. Save the planet first, then the people because what good is it to save people if they have no place to live?
Look at the little picture. I'm selfish. It's a statistical certainty that I will get cancer. I'd rather live a bit longer, die and be gone. Screw everyone else. They're all carbon.

Sorry, I'm a pessimistic athiest.

I doubt they will find a cure for cancer anytime soon.

So pretty much, just hitting the power button on your monitor...

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, and yes, I have. My family is also known for alzheimers. Really, Global warming MIGHT affect my children. Good thing I don't plan on having children. If anything global warming encourages the colonization of other planets its all of the people that are saying save the planet now that are holding us back. Face it, we will be past the PNR once all of our pollution issues are fixed. Folding has a better chance of helping us by curing diseases that will effect our race, no matter where we are.

Rumor is if everyone plugged in their electric kettles at once the power brick would go down...

Scary... I usually run my rig 24/7 (Folding) but with my monitor turned off and my CPU clocked down.

Damn. I just feel powerless sometimes. There is so much disappointment in life and it gets to me. I wish we could cure all diseases and have a clean healthy planet and enough food and space for people. But it's all a dream isn't it?
