Mid Range Graphics Card - Page 5

If you're looking for cards in the $150 - $200 price range, here are probably some of your best options. (The US-CAD exchange rate is almost 1:1 at the moment.)

Sapphire X1950XT 256mb - $179.99 (much faster than the X1950Pro)

EVGA 7950GT 256mb - $199.99 (much faster than the 7900GS)

EVGA 8600GTS 256mb - $174.99 (especially if you need DX10, but I don't like the outdated 128-bit memory interface opposed to the 256-bit of the above two.)

If you want to compare performance of these cards (and for proof of my claims), go to Tom's Hardware VGA Charts 2007 and use the drop down menus to change the cards/tests. Very comprehensive from a reliable source. Sorry, but the 8600GTS isn't on the list. The X1950XT and the 7950GT gave similar overall results, however.

The Sapphire XT is not an option because I can't find it ANYWHERE in Canada.
And the 7950GT is far too expensive from all retailers.

But 8600GTS is looking good! Time to look @ the fans

EDIT: Any opinions on the Gigabyte GeForce 8600GTS Passive? It comes with a nice passive cooler that apparently keeps it pretty cool (according to newegg reviews) and has a 3 year warranty, should I bother looking into this one too?
