1 controls the ram ide and sata and pci and the other 1 i dont kno lol
by the way im guessing
from what i understand and correct me if i'm wrong the north bridge controlls the fsb for memory and cpu and the south handles things like pci and sata and whatnot

north bridge controls the ram, and CPU and has a link to the southbridge. The southbridge controls the PCI-E, SATA, and IDE. The Southbridge also contains the clock (keeps the time when you turn off computer.)

ok, i noticed in liquid cooling systems, there are block for the north and south bridge. Does heat really affect them alot when overclocking?

It all depends on the architecture. Generally it's like that the northbridge will handle the "raw" data (such as PCI-E (graphics card), RAM and CPU, while also having another link to the southbridge), and the southbridge more finer data, such as S-ATA, P-ATA, USB etc.

Not really. A good air cooled heatsink is more than enough cooling for the NB/SB. Plus, NB/SB blocks really seem to restrict the flow in WC setups.

see i dunno it depends on how extream your overclock would be the south bridge shouldnt need to be watercooled but the northbridge could surely benifit from watercooling

I agree, the NB tends to run a little hotter in the newer boards because as you increase the FSB the NB chip runs hotter (as is the case in my 680i board). The SB can run at a moderate temp with a decent heatsink attached to it and good airflow in the case. I had waterblocks on both my NB and SB chips, but later I decided to only cool the NB and stuck a thermalright heatsink on the SB. It runs great, but the function of the chipsets depend on a lot of things such as if it is an AMD or Intel system, and If the board has SLI or crossfire, just to name a few...
