i love it, but it doesnt come with a backplate. you can see the motherboard bowing when its fastened, i think it puts a gap between my cpu and heatsink, my temps dont seem as low as they should with it

weird. mine doesnt bend the board at all. you didnt tighten the screws all the way, did you?
and how did you mount your mobo to the case? as long as you put some screws in the upper holes, close to the CPU, it should not be able to bend at all

i tightened the screws all the way, my case is chincy(sp) the metal bends its thin. hmmm, i wonder if anyone on here has a backplate, i see the stock heatsinks for 775 have a backplate

you shouldnt tighten them all the way. it pushes the base of the sink to the motherboard, in such a way that it might actually break.
how i did it: overtighten them slightly, so you can see the mobo bend a little under the pressure, then loosen each bolt little by little untill the mobo is perfectly flat again. that way enough, yet not too much pressure is applied.

well, my idle temps were 35c, i tried that p4 without the ihs, when i reinstalled this i put the as5 on in a line, guess what i lost temp, now im 39c idle

idle doesnt matter much. its all about loaded.
and its not a weird temp either. i idle at 37 on each core.

If you mean the stock Intel heat sink it does NOT have a backplate. It just clips on.
