:S That doesn't make sense to me isn't the internet reliant on just a network of servers? If so as long as there are severs that can handle it shouldn't it be all okey dokey

There is no such thing as "internet overload"
If there is that, it's the ISP own fault because they're getting more customers--and their DNS servers gets overloaded. That's simply just their own fault and can be fixed easily if you have the money.

Internet Overload?

when servers are busy it just won't let you connect, it's not that 'Teh interwez iz crumblin!', its that the bandwidth is exceeded...

I guess every news-caster and political underling wants to pretend that they know EVERYTHING about technology.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, every year someone says the internet is going to collapse under the weight of the traffic.

Looking at the figures, that seems a reasonable prediction.
"Back in the days of the dotcom boom in the late 90s, billions of dollars were invested around the world in laying cables," said net expert Bill Thompson.

"Then there was the crash of 2000 and since then we've been spending that inheritance, using that capacity, growing services to fill the space that was left over by all those companies that went out of business."
Rofl, so exactly where does that prediction seem reasonable? Because more people are using the interwebs? This stuff shouldn't even be on BBC, they should be embarrassed by it.
