8600 GTS or 7900 GS? - Page 6

clock for clock the 7900gs owns the 8600 you overclock the 8600 it wins then you overclock the 7900gs it wins the big draw is dx10 but you dont even know if it will be able to run dx10 very good. Alot of the big games will be dx9/10 so they can get all the market they can. Othen then ms games that they make for vista only that still use dx9 ploy by them to get people to get vista.

heres what i said in another forum, lemme know if im right

k

8600s dont perform as well as the dx9 cards in the same price range, for example 7950gt.

but 8600s can play dx10 games.

but most of the dx10 games are gonna be really demanding, so the 8600 is almost going to be a waste of money if bought to play dx10 games because it wont even be able to run dx10 games well anyways.

so im suggesting that you either get a good dx9 card now cause theyre almost all $200 or less now for the high end ones.

or save up more money and get a worthwhile dx10 card.

i think i finally got convinced into getting the single 8800gts. because of the fact that if i ever decide to go with more, i just save up 2 buy another one, instead of having to try to sell the 7900's and then buying 2 8800s at that time. plus was reading reviews on it and etc and that also helped me decide in their favor. only prob gonna have to find what im gonna do with my pci slots. but w.e its all good. just gonna have to save up about yet another $70 when i decide to buy it. im planning on getting the XFX 8800gts 320mb XXX http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150172 its their overclocked version. i read it was really good. was better than one of the 640mb versions in one of the reviews.

I have my BFG 7900GS OC at 579 GPU and 1.6Ghz Mem. Is that a decent OC from 540/660? :-)

no. first check if your 7900gs is using 7900gt core, you can unlock some pipes if that's the fact. Then OC more, people are hitting 700 core and 1900 ram.

...? The pipelines are laser cut, you CANNOT unlock them.

Baring in mind that the GS/GT's overclock about the same, you could be getting up to 700 MHz with a Volt Mod - my card runs 625 MHz core and it's only got about 0.05 more Volts than yours
post #57 of 58
ya you cant unlock the pipes only ones you could were bfg ones that were really gt cards just bios flashed to gs to meet the market demand.
