Error Message

Thread Starter
I am running XP Pro SP2 and I keep on getting this message when I browse through the folders on my drive :

"The Instruction at "0x00000000" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read"

Click on OK to terminate the program"

This happens ever time, it annoying. I have disabled error reporting (my computer>properties>performance>error reporting) but I doubt that it comes from that. I have also run memtest 86+ for 9+ hours with no errors.
I could just format but I would really love to find a solution, thanks in advance

This is what Microsoft says about it.. although Microsoft isnt very useful at all :
CAUSE

loadTOCNode(1, 'cause'); This behavior occurs because the operating system does not allocate a large enough buffer for the maximum string length permitted. When the data is greater than the buffer size, the Winlogon service terminates abnormally and your computer generates the error message.

In my opinion, it's a driver gone bad. That used to happen to me and I found out that I had an outdated video card driver. Good luck

This can be due to bad programming on both ends. The OS and the program that the error is referring to at that part of the memory. Happens to me from time to time which I ignore because there is no action that can be taken unless you are really good at debuggin C.
