New System won't boot

Hey guys,

I just built a new system for my friend from an MSI mobo and the computer won't even start! I attached the power connectors on the board and into the hard drive and everything, but I don't get so much as a light-up on any peripherals or a fan to spin or anything. At one point, after flipping my computer switch the floppy light lit up for a split second, but that's it. I changed power supplies, wall outlets, and power cords to see if it was a power problem, but I got no change after each result. I also made sure the power connectors were all plugged in properly into the mobo and all the computer components. Are there any other tests to do, or do I have to RMA the mobo and call it a night?

Thanks a lot you guys, I appreciate the help!

oh, and the system is 1 stick of 1 GB Kingston DDR2 533, 160 GB Maxtor Drive, AMD 3800 Dual Core, MSI k9n mobo, and a GeForce 7300 GT graphics card. They were all bought at the same place and are brand new, just got them less than a week.

try "hot wiring" the psu take the powersupply out of the case set it on a bench or somtihng plug a fan or somthing of the sorts on to one of the connectors on the power supply dont plug the 20/24 pin into the mother board take a short peice of wire and make a connection between the GREEN cable and any black cable and if the fan goes then the psu is good.

Well it is possible that the motherboard itself has a faulty connection in the initial power circuit. Thus causing nothing to work that is physically connected to the board. My suggestion is to RMA the motherboard since it seems the power supply is not the culprit.

**EDIT**
The only other thing I would suggest doing before sending the board out is to reset the CMOS and then try booting or even making sure the jumper is in the right "default" position. This wouldn't really explain the lack of power to the board but hey you never know .

Have you tried setting it up outside the case?
Did you use the standoffs to space the MB from the case?
