why would somebody buy a gtx which is like 530 minimum, when they could get two gts's for 500 and get better performance?

Because the option of a second GTX is available for expansion. And still, more memory.
It's about time!

two GTS will outperform GTX in highly optimized games for SLI only ,, even sometimes GTX beats the GTS SLI in some games supporting SLI so you might end in a situation that is just like running single GTS

You don't even need a GTS for 1024x768...

You cannot overclock an 8800GTS 320MB near the speed of an 8800GTX, because, the GTX has twice the shaders, 1.5 times the ram, and much higher clock speeds. Just the same, at 1280x1024 or 1024x768 an 8800GTS 320MB is more than enough to run games maxed out with a plesent amount of AA and AF. (They can probably do 8xAA 16xAF; depending on your processor and ram.)

Two GTS's only beat out an GTX at high resolution; because SLi helps quiet a bit. However, at 1024x768 I would only get an 8800GTS 320 and spend the money elsewhere like on a Sound Card and a Q6600. Or, you could wait for Penryn.

I can run pretty much everything DX9, 16xAA/16xAF 1280x1024 damn nicely. For me with these cards it all boils down to the resolution your going to be using, choose the card thats appropiate for your prefered res. Unless your like, loaded.. Then w/e..

Like myself for example I don't ever see myself going beyond a 22", theres no real need to have a PC monitor that big imo which is why I opted for the 320Mb. There was no sense in me going out and spending £450 on a GTX, when the 320Mb GTS was sat there at £230. I didn't even contemplate a 640Mb seeing as how 320Mb's perform just aswell upto 1900x1200..

And after alot of benchmarking between mine and my friends computer both with XFX XXX versions of the GF8 I realised, 1k more or so 3DMark06 scores at the resolutions I prefer isn't worth the extra dosh, just for braggin' rights...

To the OP if you plan to go beyond 1900x1200, a 24" monitor. I'd go with a 640Mb.

Because people are crazy?

So how about running a 17" LCD at a native resolution of 1280x1024? I'm guessing my 8800GTS 320mb should be able to hold up well?

EDIT: Just saw the post above me, sounds good!
