Can Anyone Solve This - Thanks

Thread Starter
I have a old computer that I just booted up awhile ago. It is a P4 3.4ghz w/ HT. Its custom built, but I am in the process of getting a new PC so I barely use it. I lowered the voltage to about 1.2v and it is only giving about 2.7ghz speed. What would be the right Voltage to achieve maximum efficieny from this computer. I also added DDR2 PC-6400 800mhz ram, 4gb, but in CPU-Z it only shows up to be about 333mhz with PC5300, not sure why.

- Also my bios says the load temp for CPU is 64C. I have no clue how... I have 5 fans and all are working properly. Anyone have any clue what could be going on with this.

Thanks

I dont think it has that feature, I couldn't find it in bios. I looked in system and to be exact its a Prescott P4 3.60ghz w/ HT. I have no clue what the stock voltage is, my cousin did some bad stuff to the bios, and ever since then its been messed up. Its running 64C at 1.2v, and I can't even hit the full 3.6ghz because I'm afraid if I turn up the voltage, it might hit 70C+ which will basically burn everything. The heatsink is fine, it has a little dust inside, but nothing major. There are tons of fans, my room temp is about 65F. There is no reason for it to be over heating, everything is perfectly normal inside the case. I have a feeling my bios might be buggy, I don't know anymore. Anyone know what I should set the voltage to, I am only getting 2.5ghz now, and im supposed to be getting 3.6ghz.

I can't wait till I start building my new computer, this is just getting annoying.

Stock VCore on the P4 HT is 1.325v. Those prescotts tend to run extremely hot, especially on stock cooling. I never even put the stock HSF on mine, although I have worked on quite a few of the prescotts with the stock HSF and they typically idle, with decent cooling, around 50-55ºC, load around 75-80ºC. I think that they are designed to run hot and the internal thermal control (shuts down) doesn't kick in until like 90ºC!

Yeah you should reset your whole bios.

thanks for providing the core voltage, I will set it. Sorry for asking this noob question, but we all learn sometime right, heres the question: how do I reset cmos? If you mean restore defaults, I've already done that and it really doesn't do anything.

Pull Battery out, switch PSU off in the rear(if you have it), if not, unplug it. Wait 5-10 min. Reseat battery, turn back on and get into Bios and make sure everything is A-OK!

Thank you. The voltage reset to the stock which was 1.35v, but something is still wrong. In CPU-Z it is only showing 2.8ghz now, its a jump from 2.5ghz i had before, but it doesnt make sense. I have a 3.6ghz processor. Should I change the voltage to 1.45v and see if it racehs the full 3.6ghz, or will that burn out the CPU,

thanks
