Overclocking lock ups?

Thread Starter
hello everyone,

I'm new to these forums, but I was referred here by some friends. I have a question that I'm quite puzzled with.

What can cause lock ups when overclocking?
I'm running an e6420 @ 3.2GHz (semi-stable) on a P5N32-E SLI with 2GB Corsair Dominator sticks at DDR2 1066 (running at correct 2.2v)

Can heat just cause the computer to lock up? (No BSOD, just freezes.. mouse stops working)
Or is it that I'm not giving the CPU enough voltage? (1.4 vCore BIOS)

I've even had the computer lock up while running MemTest86!

Thanks everyone.

Your system not being stable can cause lockups. Usually you would get a BSOD. but not always. try overclocking to that level using a memory divider and see if you still have the problem. Also what are your temps at. maybe you got a bad stick of ram. We are only getting started though, so it is hard to tell
