OPTY by far!!! Server chips are taken from higher quality wafers and are meant/tested to be run longer and harder (24/7). Also, double the L2 cache, which can be quite noticable at times.

Some Athlons have the same 2x1024 L2 cache as the Optys but many/most only have half as much

I've been more than pleased with the 5600+ @ stock speeds
nice on board L2 chache

been doing a lot of research to get some proper OC specs for my MB and CPU to see what I can do with it but til then, I can't justify the cost of Opteron.

If you can find an opty with a good stepping, you'll be set. The stock HS for them are pretty good too.

Too bad there aren't any 65nm K8 Opty's with 1MB L2 per core. Now that would be perfect.

Agreed.

Go with Opty as this entire thread has said. I'm almost at a full GHz OC on stock volts with my Tuniq. Again, Opterons are just made from higher quality silicon because they're servers processors meant for heavy usage but for desktop use you'll never reach the breaking point on these bad boys.
