Ummm, how rookie is rookie? like:

"OMG ive never even seen the inside of a computer case b4!"

or

"well ive wacked a HDD in and stuff, but thats about it"

Kind of rookie?

TO be honest, unless you just go jamming things in where there not supposed to go or in the wrong way, you should be fine, just read the manual's ( YEA I SAID IT ) they usualy tell you everything you need to know. just make sure you double check everything, you dont want to go frying things the second you press the power button.

It'll be fine for pretty much anything you need it to do. Until you get into the higher detailed games. As you said that 7600GS isn't great, but it'll do.
'bout time.

The only manuals that you need to have are the Motherboard and CPU installation guide. with them you cant really go wrong.

And as far as installation of OS goes, its all really straight forward. basically step-by-step.

trust me man, i built my first PC with no help from anyone, and no previous experience, in a matter of hours, its quite easy. just dont break anything!!!! (ughh....bad memories...damn Graphics Card....)
