Help with Gigabyte mobo and Patriot ram!

Thread Starter
I really want to purchase a GIGABYTE GA-M55SLI-S4 mobo but I have a problem regarding ram. I have some Patriot PC2-6400 800Mh ram that I would like to use. The problem is that the mobo's ram slots operate at 1.8v and the ram says on the box that it operates at 2.2v. Is there a safe way to fix this so that I may use the ram with that mobo? Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you for your time.

I don't know the bios on that board very well, but, if you can boot with that ram and raise the ram voltage in the bios you will be good to go. However most bios that run the ram at 1.8 default only go to 2.2v in the bios which will limit the O.C. of the ram.

Shouild be an area that has RAM speed and mine you go +.2 for 2.0 and so on. True high voltage ram sucks on some boards.

He's not asking about speed, he's asking aboult the voltage for operation. VERY different topic.

Thank you for your replies . So all I would have to do is boot the bios and change the voltage to 2.2v(+.04?) ?

Yes...correct..

that ram will boot at 1.8v It may also default the timings to 5-5-5-16 or so..

My board did the same thing...Also those seem to be the LLK set with 4-4-4-12-1T and they arent as good of clockers as the ELK's that are 5-5-5-16-1T @ 2.0v

but maybe you can do better?
