just my luck.....

so i ordered a bunch of new WC gear that arrived late last week and i was planning on having a rockin sunday gettin it all ready.. que sunday morning.

woke up and started inspecting my blocks and pump etc. took apart my d-tek fusion and found it to be flawless. my EK-8800 block was perfect as well. my rez had a few plastic flakes still clinging to the thread but nothing major. cleaned everythingthing out measured my tubing and set up for my first run of the new stuff

plugged the pump in and turned it on. i must say, those laing DDC pumps with the mod top (mine is petras model) pack a puch! and the little tornado that was forming in my multioption was SICK! everything ran like a charm.. i was very pleased.. now to wait. i sat by it for many hours. probably about 4, then i decided to go and get me some lunch downstairs. here is when the nightmare starts...

as per my luck i come back from lunch, maybe about half hour later to find that one of the tubes had popped off and there is water all over the carpet and my pump is chugging on.. air. ***! of all times grrr. turned eveything off asap grabbed towels etc. tried to deduce how long it had been doing that.. tested my pump again to see if anything had happened. still works just as good from what i could see ( i judged by the size of the tornado in the rez for a quick guestimate ) but im still worried about lasting effects from the pump running dry...

just as a side note, i ended up having to replace a barb on my d-tek fuzion.. (good thing i ordered extras) apparently one of the barbs on it had a bad chrome plating that had started to wear down showing a small area of the brass underneath.. at first i thought it could be some leftover vinegar/water mix that i cleaned the blocks with, but if there was any residue it was minimal.. ( and i only do 5% vinegar ) and it was only on one barb, and it had only been run maybe 4hours.. any thoughts?

anyways after a very stressful sunday, all is up and running well now with some very pleasing results ( and eye candy as well ) 7/16 tubing really makes a huge difference over 3/8..

Well with any luck your tubing came off just before you got back in there...Only time will tell if you damaged your pump much....

The chrome will flake off barbs sometimes I guess it wasn't clean in that spot when they plated it...The only thing it really hurts is the flakes get circulated and end up clogging blocks or end up in the pump.....

Are you getting good temp's?

that happened to me btw, when i first started to watercool, didnt secure the tubing on the bard, phew the tubing went to the floor of the case so nothing was damaged.
Was a Tt watercooling system, lol figures.

@Ira. yeah i took all the blocks apart and tried to see if i could find any, the area was luckily pretty small and my guess is whatever flakes there were got flushed out. and my temps are great. lower than i was hoping actually so the only question now is pump damage. being forever optimistic i say its just fine

@Apollo. this was just a leak test, so it was far away from the hardware thank goodness.

@Das. i actually do use those hose clamps, but for when i put it in for the final. but when im doing a leak test i just push the tubing over the barb and that holds it. (my fault i guess, but its never come off like that. lesson learned )

Brass is fine with copper.

Running a pump dry will shorten its lifespan. Can't say how much though.
Once again...

Aren't you glad you leaked tested.. ...I'll leak test for 48 hours or longer if I'm not in a hurry and for at least 24 hours if I am in a hurry...Yeah I wouldn't worry about the pump either...Whats done is done....
