x86 (32 bit) is physically limited to 4GB. However, that all system memory, I.E. video memory.

So in order to make things simple, Microsoft limits your computer to 3.25GB. If you were to install SLIed 8800GTX's you would be further limited to only 2.5GB.

Vista x64 is wonderful might I add. It is well worth aquiring.

os's are expensive.. vista 64bit is like 350 dollars >_>, is there 64bit os for linux?

You're not by chance in college are you?

If you are, have a brother/sister/parent that is, then it's likely that you can get some cheap OS's from the local college book store... like $10 for XP x86 and 64bit and maybe, comming this fall, Vista (not sure about that one, but it's worth checking into if you have a chance.

And edition of Vista can run x64. You just need to either have MS ship you the discs or borrow them from someone. But a regular x86 license will also work on a x64 version.
