Simple Case Mod [56k warning]

Thread Starter
For those of us whom have no patience to remove the mobo and all wires to change the cpu (775, non WCing)
i have been constantly changing my cpu in recent time and decided im tired of removing all the wiring and mobo just to remove the heatsink to change the cpu

1) before i started, i put my mobo in without cpu/heatsink.

2)i got a screwdriver and some old thermal paste and put a dab on the end of the tip

3)i then carefully put the screwdriver through the heatsink mounting holes (a perminent marker wouldnt reach the case) touching the case

4)after removing the mobo, i carefully made each dot more noticeable then use a + screwdriver and punched each to put a small indent for the drill bit

5)then i got the drill+bit and started to drill out the marked dots, halfway i would flip the case and continue from the otherside

6)i think installed the mobo and made sure everything cleared (unfortunatly it didnt and i had to use a unibit not pictured) this is after correction

7)i then installed the cpu and placed the heatsink

thats it Hope you like the time i spent to document this

Hey that is awesome, really good idea for someone who has to do some tests or is trying to get the perfect mount.

How exactly does that HSF attach to the mobo? No backplate? It kinda looks like it has a little thingy for each screw.

I was hoping i would see my video card in there

its in there just not in that pic
told ya i fixed it

yes unfortunatly there is no back plate for the gemin II, the heatsink has 4 studs that attach to the heatsink then you run through the board(see pic 7) then 4 nuts that screw to it

for the am2 yes, but it only uses 2 screws so id hope it had something. im on 775 so it hasnt one , bit if it did it would need longer screws since the screws are in place and the nuts go on
