Recommend me a DX10

Thread Starter
I'm thinking of getting a new graphics card, and would like it to be able to run DirectX 10 games. I've been looking at the eVGA 8600GTS, but I'd like to hear other people's takes.
My price range is in the $200 mark, but I suppose if it's a big enough difference, I could go up to $250.

I would personally wait until more games come out and I see more competition in the DX10 area but if you must, the 8800GTS is the way to go, but if you can't get that price range, the 8600GTS will do fine for now.

i say wait till a few DX 10 games come out. by then, hopefully, prices will drop and you can get a 8800 GTS or whatever ATI dx10 videocard is out there that fits in your budget.

I read a review somewhere that the 8600 barely-scrapes-by or is worse than7600GT in some directx 9.0c games. Not a good price/performance ratio.

EVGA 8800gts would be my pick, being you can use the EVGA step up plan.

Don't buy a dx10 card yet, we dont even know how these cards will hold up in dx 10.

I'm going to take the advice and wait for a Crysis demo or something (all the DX10 games other than that have been pretty damn unimpressive). I do want to be able to play Half-Life 2 Episode 2 right when it comes out, but perhaps I could just turn down HDR.

I would wait until ATi realses more of their cards. This way nVidia will be forced to drop their prices. There is a rumor that their cards will drop in price once the ATi HD 2900XT 1GB hits the shelves. I would wait at least a month. But, if you were going to buy a card, I would definately get an eVGA e-GeForce 8800GTS. If you could, I would push for the 640MB version and overclock it to Superclocked speeds.

The 320MB version probably won't hold up too good in DirectX 10 games, because of it's small amount of GDDR3 ram.

Well, wait or get it now it doesn't really matter. It just depends on what you are doing. For instance if you play games like Microsoft FSX you will want a DX10 card like the 8 series 640. If you don't play games that demand power and graphics wait. Up to you.
