Plywood wouldn't have been my first choice as a case material unless I was gonna 'glass it and paint it...

What are you going to do to hide the screws and the edges if you stain it? What are you making your cuts with? A jigsaw?

I'll give you a tip for clean cuts with a jigsaw. Get yourself a straight edge and clamp it to the surface to be cut. Allow the jigsaw to follow the straight edge during each cut. Done properly, this should eliminate any wavy cuts.

Another thing you could have done is used glue blocks in the corners to eliminate the screws. Like they do with home built acrylic cases.

The wood is pretty good quality. It cost me 20 bucks for the wood.

I think I am going to leave the screws exposed. Personally, I like the look of them.

Thanks for the tip with the jigsaw. I will do that from now on. Rep.

Oh yeah, Birch plywood is a nice quality plywood. Many cabinets are made with it. Just keep in mind that the edges won't take stain as nicely as the faces will.

In most cases where an edge will show a carpenter will use a thin strip of laminate material from the same wood species, in this case Birch, to hide the raw plywood edge.

It shouldn't be too late.... If I were you, I would go for pure wood, preferably walnut, if you can buy it down there. Walnut is a beauty to work with! Oak would be a second best, then Maple for being the Aluminum of woods. You WILL have ugly edges hen you stain plywood. sorry for being brutally honest.

BTW, yes, that's what narrow means.

Yes, but I understand this is too difficult at this stage. It still looks ok.

In response to those posts, I took some more pictures, and I can understand where you are coming from with that, but I want my case to have some room for everything without having to cram it inside.

I took some pictures of the entire case, and it is pretty tall and thin in ratio. It is just a large case all around. I might be able to move the CD drive over to the center later on if that is what you are talking about? I am almost positive I will have the extra wood to make another face for it.

Here are those pics.

the dimensions of the case seem fine to me. it ould be better if the cd drive was centered but that doesnt make a big difference to me. sorry but i think the half rubber half stain would look pretty bad. i think you should just keep the whole thing stained. and another idea just popped into my head. you could use edging pieces (dont remember what they are called, i mean the things where the wall meets the ceiling etc.). you could use two of those to round off the corners and add a more elegant look to the case. but that's just an idea im throwing out there
