Good for an hours work

Thread Starter
Just took delivery of my Silverstone FM122 fan this morning, so i decided to have a play
Will post pics etc later for now just a description.

So i took my giga****e cooler off and took off the origional fan, surprised to find that it was actually 80mm not the 110mm described :O so i went to put the 120mm on and it was absolutely huge against the heatsink. Anyways i tied it on with bodge string and it sits on nicely(ish).

Next up was a re-lap of the hsf base, took about 20 mins and now looked alot smoother. I then lapped the cpu IHS, this took approx 30mins.

I then proceeded to fit the cpu and hsf back into my case.

After it was all fitted i booted into ios to find that my temperatures with the fan rip roaring at 2400rpm had dropped by 10C to 35

So i immediately raised my fsb to meet the 3GHz mark and booted into windows xp for testing.

Under full load my temps at 3GHz are now 5C lower than at 2.9GHz and i have increased the vcore to 1.5V. now loading at 47-49C

The as5 hasnt cured yet and its only been running about 3 hrs but i have a feeling this fan has just made me a very happy man, next up i need a tt bt to mount it onto for mega temp drops

Thanks for reading and as stated earlier will validate cpu-z and post pics later

Well I think you've convinced me to do the same when I get my new 3200 venice Thursday. I was debating if lapping would be worth the effort but I am fairly convinced now that I have no choice. Thanks and good work! Got some pics?
